A friend of mine is a cat lover. She loves them so much that she made her home a refuge for cats. She breeds the more exotic ones and there are about 12 cats that live with her inside the house. She has built ramps, cat windows that open to an enclosed porch, cat runs, little shelves they can sleep or sit on and just about every cat product you can imagine. The cats also have their own sleeping tunnels and beds, only miniature though. It was like a cat revolution, the film she sent me with. It started with only two cats, the one causing the trouble over the one who was supposedly resting or sleeping.
Cats, same as raccoons, dogs and bears, were considered to have came from a specie that aged 50 million years before but no longer continues to exist, called the Miacas. In comparison to a weasel, they have claws that can be retracted if they will it.
Egyptians cherished their wildcats. They even train them as pets during 3500 B.C. Their ability in hunting were portrayed by the Egyptians through artworks. Egyptians also thought that the sunlight was enclosed in the cat's eyes. Around 1500 B.C., cats were believed to be a divine being. Death was the punishment for those who killed cats. If an owner lost his/her pet cat that he/she adored so much, they trimmed their eyebrows as a sign of unhappiness, and the cat was then made into a mummy.
Europe and Asia had cats only during the 1000 B.C. when the Phoenician and Greek merchants carried it to the place. They continued to be revered for their hunting ability and skill in controlling the rodent population.
The earliest cat show was assembled in the year 1871 in the city of London, England with its cat association put up in 1887. And the rest is history for cat fanciers everywhere.
Once, when my mother was ill, I had to run errands. My mom had a friend who said she could keep my mother company so that I could go where I needed to go. My mother and Lucy were already seniors, they were into their late sixties at that point in time. When I got home, mother was asleep on one couch and her friend, Lucy, on the other. Lucy was so sound asleep, she was snoring and mother's cat was sitting on her chest with her eyes fixed on her nose and mouth. Maybe she was marveling at Lucy and was attracted to her. When Lucy took breathes, the cat and her chest went up and down at the same time. I roused my mom from her slumber so that she could witness how amusing and priceless it was. When my mom's friend Lucy opened her eyes, she was looking directly into the eyes of a curious cat. Arising from a deep slumber, she thought she was hallucinating until she noticed that mom and I were laughing our hearts out. That nap always reminded them of the most heartwarming experience they had and they continued to talk about it even when they became older.
It has been a pleasure having our cat friends around giving us adoration and serene times. They have also been a source of laughter and enjoyment because of their curious tricks. Aside from all the loving they have received in return and all the care and nutrition for their health, we could still supply them with things to amuse themselves as well as a comfortable quarter to sleep and play in. Purrfection!
