I have this lovely friend who absolutely adores cats - so much so she turned part of her house into a cat sanctuary. Around twelve cats are currently living with her inside her house. She usually breeds cats with the most striking feature that's why it became so many. Like a little house small enough for cats to stay in, she made it with the ramps, windows, and covered porches. There are also runways for cats and rooms using little shelves. If cats have beauty products, she had those as well. Their sleeping tunnels and beds are tiny. At times, my friend would send me a copy of her cat films, one in particular showing a little one sleeping along the tunnels, while another runs through the tunnel landing on the sleeping cat. It creates a big mess!
They say that cats originally came from an extinct species, Miacas that goes 50 millenniums way back and so are the raccoons, dogs and bears. In comparison to a weasel, they have claws that can be retracted if they will it.
During the time of 3500 B.C., the Egyptian people also had pets of their own and these were tamed wildcats. Their ability in hunting were portrayed by the Egyptians through artworks. Egyptians also thought that the sunlight was enclosed in the cat's eyes. Cats were regarded as something very holy, so anyone who was guilty of killing a cat, was sentenced to die as well. This was observed during the 1500 B.C. When a person's much-loved pet cat passed away, the body was preserved and the pet owner had their eyebrows cut off to signify their mourning.
Then, around 1000 B.C., the cat was introduced to Europe and Asia by Phoenician and Greek traders. They were still admired for their hunting skill and ability to limit the growth of the rodent population.
It was in Europe where the original cat show was held, during 1871 in London, England. By 1887, the first cat association was instituted. And for those who so much love cats, the rest is in the past.
At one time, my mother was sick, I had to do my errands. My mother had her friend as a companion while I did my errands. Mom and Lucy at that time were both over their senior years. Mother and Lucy were already sleeping when I came back from my errands. Both were on the couches in the living room. Lucy was so sound asleep, she was snoring and mother's cat was sitting on her chest with her eyes fixed on her nose and mouth. Maybe she was marveling at Lucy and was attracted to her. And every time Lucy breathed, her chest went up and down, the cat with it. I roused my mom from her slumber so that she could witness how amusing and priceless it was. Lucy's eyes caught the cat's eyes when she roused from her sleep. Lucy thought she was in a dream but suddenly realized that she wasn't when we burst out laughing. She could never forget about it. Mom and Lucy reminisced about it every now and then as they grew even older.
