I have this lovely friend who absolutely adores cats - so much so she turned part of her house into a cat sanctuary. She breeds the more exotic ones and there are about 12 cats that live with her inside the house. She really made the room fit for cats to live in, with ramps and enclosed porches, runs, and little shelves for them to sleep in. She even have grooming products for her cats. They even have their own small sleeping quarters that cats access through tunnels. It was like a cat revolution, the film she sent me with. It started with only two cats, the one causing the trouble over the one who was supposedly resting or sleeping.
They say that cats originally came from an extinct species, Miacas that goes 50 millenniums way back and so are the raccoons, dogs and bears. In comparison to a weasel, they have claws that can be retracted if they will it.
Around 3500 B. C., Egyptians were treasuring domesticated wildcats as their pets. Their ability in hunting were portrayed by the Egyptians through artworks. Egyptians also thought that the sunlight was enclosed in the cat's eyes. Cats were highly revered during the 1500 B.C. and it was fatal for any individual takes the life of a cat. When a beloved cat pet died, the owners shaved their eyebrows as a symbol of grief - and they mummified the cat.
Then, around 1000 B.C., the cat was introduced to Europe and Asia by Phoenician and Greek traders. They continued to be revered for their hunting ability and skill in controlling the rodent population.
London, England held its first cat show in 1871, and established the first cat association in 1887. And for those who so much love cats, the rest is in the past.
On one occasion, I had to do a job as my mother was left in the house with some ailment. My mother had her friend as a companion while I did my errands. Mother and Lucy were in their late 60's at the time. I found them both asleep on each couch in the living room by the time I arrived home. My mom's friend was sleeping so soundly, she snored. My mom's cat was resting on her chest gazing at her mouth and nose. The cat seemed to be curious about my mom's friend and found her interesting. When Lucy took breathes, the cat and her chest went up and down at the same time. I woke my mother up so she could share in this hilarious and precious moment. Lucy's eyes caught the cat's eyes when she roused from her sleep. Lucy thought she was in a dream but suddenly realized that she wasn't when we burst out laughing. She could never forget about it. Mom and Lucy reminisced about it every now and then as they grew even older.
The cats have became a part of our family and having them has been gratifying, with lots of tenderness and calm moments. Their inquisitive behavior has given us many reasons to laugh and amuse ourselves. Besides loving them back, and providing the best of care and food for their well being, we can provide things that will keep them from getting bored, comfy places to sleep and play. Mwow!
