I have this lovely friend who absolutely adores cats - so much so she turned part of her house into a cat sanctuary. She allowed cats that looked unusual to mate. At present, she has about twelve cats dwelling in her place. She has built ramps, cat windows that open to an enclosed porch, cat runs, little shelves they can sleep or sit on and just about every cat product you can imagine. The cats also have their own sleeping tunnels and beds, only miniature though. It was like a cat revolution, the film she sent me with. It started with only two cats, the one causing the trouble over the one who was supposedly resting or sleeping.
Miacas, a kind of specie that existed only 50 million years ago was supposed to be the source of the animals that we have now, particularly raccoons, dogs, bears and cats. These animals are similar to a weasel that has five claws that can be pulled back in.
Wildcats were valued and treated as pets by the Egyptians about 3500 B.C. They were immortalized in artwork for their skills in hunting and the Egyptians believe the cat's eyes held the light of the sun. Cats were considered so sacred, it was a practice about 1500 B.C, that if anyone killed a cat, they were put to death. If a dearly loved cat died, its pet owner expressed their sorrow by having their eyebrows shaved and the cat mummified.
Cats were transported by Phoenician and Greek traders to Europe and Asia by 1000 B.C. Their ability to search, pursue and eliminate rodents were still highly regarded of them.
In 1871, the pioneering cat show was organized in London, England, followed by the pioneer cat association in 1887. And the rest is history for cat fanciers everywhere.
At one time, my mother was sick, I had to do my errands. My mom had a friend who said she could keep my mother company so that I could go where I needed to go. Mother and Lucy were in their late 60's at the time. I found them both asleep on each couch in the living room by the time I arrived home. Lucy was sleeping like a log but sounded like a motor running because of her snores. Mom's cat was on her chest, staring at Lucy's mouth and nose. The cat seemed to be curious about my mom's friend and found her interesting. The cat also went up and down as Lucy's chest went up and down when she breathed. I woke my mother up so she could share in this hilarious and precious moment. As soon as Lucy woke up herself, she gazed at the cat's curious eyes. At first, she thought she was dreaming, but it became clear to her that she was in reality when she overheard me and mom giggling. On occasions, they recalled that most memorable experience and even into her old age.
It has been a pleasure having our cat friends around giving us adoration and serene times. We are entertained and amused by their prying actions. Aside from all the loving they have received in return and all the care and nutrition for their health, we could still supply them with things to amuse themselves as well as a comfortable quarter to sleep and play in. Purrcisely!
