My friend's crazy about cats. She takes care of them, and even provided them a home which is part of her house. She breeds the more exotic ones and there are about 12 cats that live with her inside the house. She did some remodeling fit for cats to stay in, with ramps, windows, porches, cat runs and little shelves. She also bought cat products everything that you can think of. Their sleeping tunnels and beds are tiny. At times, my friend would send me a copy of her cat films, one in particular showing a little one sleeping along the tunnels, while another runs through the tunnel landing on the sleeping cat. It creates a big mess!
Cats, same as raccoons, dogs and bears, were considered to have came from a specie that aged 50 million years before but no longer continues to exist, called the Miacas. They had five claws that retract just like the weasel.
Around 3500 B. C., Egyptians were treasuring domesticated wildcats as their pets. Their ability in hunting were portrayed by the Egyptians through artworks. Egyptians also thought that the sunlight was enclosed in the cat's eyes. Cats were considered so sacred, it was a practice about 1500 B.C, that if anyone killed a cat, they were put to death. If a dearly loved cat died, its pet owner expressed their sorrow by having their eyebrows shaved and the cat mummified.
Then, around 1000 B.C., the cat was introduced to Europe and Asia by Phoenician and Greek traders. They remained to be awed for their knack for hunting and curbing the rodent populace.
It was in Europe where the original cat show was held, during 1871 in London, England. By 1887, the first cat association was instituted. And for those who so much love cats, the rest is in the past.
On one occasion, I had to do a job as my mother was left in the house with some ailment. My mom had a friend who said she could keep my mother company so that I could go where I needed to go. Mother and Lucy were in their late 60's at the time. When I got home, mother was asleep on one couch and her friend, Lucy, on the other. My mom's friend was sleeping so soundly, she snored. My mom's cat was resting on her chest gazing at her mouth and nose. The cat seemed to be curious about my mom's friend and found her interesting. Each time Lucy inhaled and exhaled, so did her chest rose and dropped, and the cat along with it. It was a very comical and treasured moment, and I wanted mom to feel what I felt, so I woke her up. As soon as Lucy woke up herself, she gazed at the cat's curious eyes. At first, she thought she was dreaming, but it became clear to her that she was in reality when she overheard me and mom giggling. On occasions, they recalled that most memorable experience and even into her old age.
The cats have became a part of our family and having them has been gratifying, with lots of tenderness and calm moments. We are entertained and amused by their prying actions. Besides loving them back, and providing the best of care and food for their well being, we can provide things that will keep them from getting bored, comfy places to sleep and play. Purrrfect!
